Baume et Mercier presents Clifton Club Burt Munro Tribute Limited Edition
It was 1926 when Burt Munro carpenter and professional New Zealand driver bought a 1920 Indian Scout. A motorcycle made by Indian motorcycle the first motorcycle manufacturer founded in the United States in 1901 and able to reach 90 km / h. From that moment Munro decided to devote his life to the pursuit of speed. After 40 years in 1967 in Bonneville Salt Flats a circuit made in a part of the homonymous salt lake in Utah on his modified Indian Scout up to the displacement of 950 cc Munro managed to reach a speed record of 296.11 km / h for the displacements below 1000cc, which is still unbeaten today.

Presented by Alain Zimmermann and Grant Bester respectively CEO of Baume et Mercier and Vice President / General Manager EMEA of Indian Motorcyles the Clifton Club Burt Munro Tribute Limited Edition made in only 1967 copies (the year of the record) celebrates Munro's venture through different stylistic references. Like the big 35 in yellow and black that serves as the background to the chronograph seconds counter and evokes the lucky number of the centaur, the red calfskin strap like the Indian Munro Special with pin buckle with the brand logo. The dial, silver with sanded finishes and colimaçon that recalls the surface of the salty desert of Bonneville Salt Flats, the bezel with tachymeter on which stands out the 184 that, in miles per hour, is equivalent to the speed of the record 296.11 km / h. The counterweight of the seconds hand in the shape of the letter "I" and the caseback of the 44 mm stainless steel case engraved with the serial number and the Indian company logo headdress.
Lee Munro, Burt's nephew, set a new speed record at the Bonneville Speed Week honoring Burt's record reaching nearly 200 miles per hour and creating an imaginary link to his grandfather's deeds in 1978. At the EICMA motorcycle of Milan the Clifton Club Burt Munro Tribute Limited Edition was on the Indian stand in the company of the object of the Burt Munro record and the FTR1200 Scout Custom flat tracker a motorbike inspired by the FTR750 which won the American Flat Track Championship 2017.
